Withdrawing Dota 2 skins to Steam: how it works
6 min read
How to withdraw Dota 2 skins to Steam from DOTAGRADE: what you need, how the trade offer arrives, what the statuses mean and what to do if it is delayed.
A withdrawal is not a money transfer but a hand-over of an item: the site gets the skin for you on the market and a trade offer arrives in your Steam. To make it smooth, you prepare your account once. Answers to common questions are in the FAQ.
1.What do you need to withdraw skins to Steam?
A short preparation comes before the first withdrawal, and you do it once:
- A Steam account. You sign in to the site through Steam; if your profile is not linked to Steam yet, link it in your profile.
- The trade link of your own account. Save it in “Profile → Settings”. A link from another account will not do: the site sends items only to the Steam account that your profile belongs to.
- Steam Guard switched on. If Steam asks for the mobile authenticator for trades, set it up.
- An account without trade restrictions or a trade ban.
- An open Steam inventory with free space.
Find the trade link in Steam: “Inventory → Trade Offers → Who can send me Trade Offers?”. The link is at the bottom of the page; copy it into your profile settings on the site.
2.How to withdraw a skin to Steam, step by step
- Open your inventory on the site, hover the item, press the Steam icon (“Withdraw to Steam”) and confirm the withdrawal.
- The item gets the status “Sending”: a copy is bought for you on our item supplier’s market.
- When the trade is ready, the card shows “Trade sent” and an “Accept in Steam” button, and a trade offer arrives in your Steam.
- Accept the trade in Steam. The status then changes to “Withdrawn”, and the skin is in your Steam inventory.
The offer usually arrives within a few minutes, but the time depends on Steam and the market. While a withdrawal is in progress the item is locked: you cannot sell it or stake it in an upgrade.
3.What do the withdrawal statuses mean?
- “Sending” — the withdrawal is accepted and the item is being prepared for delivery.
- “Waiting for stock” — there is no suitable copy on the market at the right price right now; the withdrawal is sent when one shows up, and you can cancel it with the “Cancel withdrawal” button on the card.
- “On review” — a large withdrawal is checked by hand before it is sent; the card shows the expected time.
- “Trade sent” — the offer is already in Steam and waits for you: press “Accept in Steam”.
- “Withdrawn” — the trade is complete and the item is in your Steam.
- “Not delivered” — the delivery did not go through and the item is back in your inventory on the site.
The status is shown on the item card in your inventory, and the history is in “Profile → Items history”.
4.Why might a withdrawal be delayed?
- there may be no suitable copy of the item on the market right now, or its price is above the item’s price — the withdrawal waits until that changes;
- a large withdrawal is checked manually before it is sent;
- delivery may be paused for a moment — it then resumes automatically;
- the time depends on Steam and on the market.
If a withdrawal hangs for unusually long, write to the support chat or to [email protected] with the item name and the time of the request.
5.What happens if a withdrawal fails?
The item returns to your inventory on the site automatically, and the reason is shown in the items history. Typical reasons:
- the trade link is invalid or belongs to another account;
- the Steam inventory is private or full;
- the account has a trade restriction (Steam Guard, trade hold) or a trade ban, or needs the mobile authenticator;
- the offer was declined or not accepted in time;
- Steam could not create the trade or rolled it back.
Fix the reason and withdraw again, or sell the item for balance. If an item cannot be handed over at all (for example it is no longer available), under the Terms of Service we may offer a similar item or return its value to your balance.
6.Withdraw or sell: which to choose?
- Withdraw if you want the skin in your Steam inventory. It then leaves the site.
- Sell if you want balance. Hover the item and press the coins icon: the price is shown in the tooltip, follows the site’s sale rate (it can differ from the market price) and is credited at once. Selling needs no trade link or Steam Guard.
Balance can be spent in the shop or added to the stake of the next upgrade. An item that is being withdrawn cannot be sold until the withdrawal finishes or returns.
7.When are withdrawals closed: bonus and Steam’s protection
- Bonus money. A bonus — for example from a promo code, a deposit bonus or cashback — has to be played through: you stake an amount in upgrades that is a multiple of the bonus. While something is left to wager, withdrawing to Steam is closed; the shop, selling and upgrades keep working, and what is left is shown in your profile.
- A skin deposit. If you topped up with skins from Steam and Steam put that trade under its trade protection (up to 7 days), the opening of withdrawals may wait until it ends. The conditions are shown in the top-up window. Deposited skins turn into balance, not into items in your inventory on the site.
8.Can I withdraw my balance or winnings as money?
No. The balance on the site is an internal unit, not money, a bank deposit or electronic money, and it cannot be exchanged for cash — this is stated in the Terms of Service. What leaves the site are items from your inventory: they are sent to your Steam by a trade offer.
9.How to avoid scammers when you withdraw
- Never tell anyone your Steam password or Steam Guard codes. The site signs you in through Steam and never receives your password.
- A withdrawal means you receive an item: the trade does not ask you to give anything in return. If an offer asks for your items, do not accept it and write to support.
- The offer is sent by our supplier or a seller on the market, so the sender in Steam can be an unfamiliar account. Check the item name before you accept.
The site is for adults only (18+). How upgrades work and what the chance depends on is in How the Dota 2 upgrader works and How to choose a target for a Dota 2 skin upgrade; how to play with a clear head is in Play with a clear head.
